EquiCheckTM-SAA is a rapid test to test the state of the horse's immune system that facilitates the detection of infections and other inflammatory conditions.

Easy to use and interpret, results are obtained in less than 10 minutes, detecting the degree of inflammation (normal, mild, moderate or severe) through the levels of amyloid protein in the body.

Serum amyloid A protein

The serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is one of the major proteins involved in the acute phase of inflammation in horses. Under normal health conditions, very low levels are seen, but they rise within hours of a problem to levels 100-1000 times higher than normal.

The increase in SAA during an inflammatory response is a much clearer and faster indicator than other used markers, such as fibrinogen or white blood cell count, allowing a more reliable evaluation of the degree of inflammation in the horse.

Another significant advantage of the amyloid test is the rapid drop in its levels when the problem is resolved, so it can help us track the effectiveness of the treatment and the recovery of the horse.

AMIES media is a modification of Cary Blair media, which is at the same time a modification of Stuart media. Basically, the glycerophosphate is replaced by an inorganic phosphate and the methylene blue by pharmacological charcoal. Calcium and Magnesium are also added, thus maintaining the permeability of the bacterial cell. This medium assures the viability of organisms such as:
- Neisseria sp.
- Haemophilus sp.
- Corynebacterium sp.
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Streptococcus pyogenes
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Shigella flexneri
- Salmonella typhi
- Brucella abortus
- Enterobacterias, etc.
Some microorganisms can survive in the media for up to 3 days, although the recovery of microorganisms is better in the first 24 hours. Amies transport swabs are available with or without charcoal.
Swabs are sterilized by radiation. Expiry date: 30 months after sterilization date.

This tube has a coagulation activator applied by spray on the wall. It can be used for serum determinations in clinical chemistry and serology.

After the tube has been filled with blood, invert the tube 8-10 times to mix and ensure adequate anticoagulation of the specimen.

Available in 4ml and 10ml, both in boxes of 100 units.
