Which DERFEN is the right one for my horse?

Wednesday 12 July 2023
In cases of dermatitis, DERFEN is a topical product that provides effective, immediate and long-lasting relief from itching. It has been on the market for many years and has proven its effectiveness, becoming the best ally to treat equine summer dermatitis.

The first Derfen to hit the market, after a long investigation by Animaderm, was Derfen Original, very dark in color and with a strong odor. Later, other Derfen presentations were added: Derfen Clear, in cream... Find out which Derfen is the most suitable for your horse.

Derfen in lotion or in cream?

Derfen is available in lotion or in cream. The lotion is indicated for the mane and the base of the tail, the first spots where itching usually appears. Due to scratching, considerable hair loss can occur, and in these areas it is seen much more. Derfen stops itching, but also helps hair grow back.

Derfen cream is indicated for areas where the application of lotion is difficult, and for more sensitive areas such as the face, ears, belly, extremities... Its creamy texture facilitates application and maximum absorption in these areas.

What is the difference between Derfen Original and Derfen Clear?

Derfen Original is very dark in color and has a very strong odor. We recommend its application together with Natjely vaseline to keep the skin hydrated as much as possible. Recommended for horses with thick, resistant skin, non-stalled horses and horses with a dark coat color.

Derfen Clear is recommended for horses with sensitive/dry skin, since its formula includes moisturizing oils. It is also the most suitable Derfen for gray horses due to the light cream color.

Application

Apply directly to the affected areas every 3-4 days. The frequency may vary since each skin is different and we must adapt to each need. In this case we can observe how often the horse scratches; that interval would be the frequency with which we sould apply the product. Nevery apply every day. On days when Derfen is not applied, a natural vaseline like Natjely can be applied to keep the skin hydrated. If the horse's skin is very dry and dehydrated, it is very likely that the product will be absorbed quickly after the first application.

1. Gently brush the affected area to remove dirt, dust and sweat.
2. Shake the bottle to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
3. Apply the product directly in contact with the skin, between the mane.
4. Massage lightly to penetrate.
