New: Pergosafe

Thursday 04 June 2026
Dechra has launched PERGOSAFE, indicated for the symptomatic treatment of intermediate pituitary dysfunction (PPID), also known as equine Cushing's disease.

PPID is one of the most common endocrine diseases in older horses, affecting 20-25% of horses over 15 years old and up to 30% of horses over 30 years old. Clinical signs include hypertrichosis (in 70% of cases) and laminitis (in 30%). Pergolide has proven to be a highly effective treatment, improving the clinical signs of PPID and enhancing the horse's quality of life.

Pergosafe is available in two strengths: 0.5 mg and 1 mg, allowing for more precise and efficient dosing.

PERGOSAFE 160 tablets

Pergolida 0,5mg

Pergolida 1mg

The tablets are round and film-coated so the horse doesn't notice the bitter taste and will eat them more readily. For this reason, they cannot be split or divided.
Pergosafe is a prescription medication for veterinary use; consult your veterinarian.

In addition to Pergoquin, Girovet also offers a nutraceutical for horses with Cushing's Syndrome: CUSHINAZE.

CUSHINAZE combines appropriate medicinal plants with Magnesium, MSM, and antioxidants to stabilize pituitary gland function and alleviate the effects of Cushing's Syndrome (such as laminitis), improve coat condition, and keep the horse vital and active. It provides a cost-effective, long-term alternative to traditional drug therapy.
