Dermatological problems in horses are, unfortunately, increasingly common. Because high temperatures are present for more of the year, the season when summer dermatitis affects sensitive horses is lengthening. Increasingly, we can observe abnormalities in the dermis almost all year round, so it is very important to focus on prevention and ongoing skin care.

 

If your horse suffered equine summer dermatitis last summer, it is very likely that it will happen again this year, since this problem will surely accompany him for the rest of his life. This type of dermatitis is caused by an exaggerated reaction or hypersensitivity on the part of the horse's body to insect bites. The mosquito (Culicoides) is the most common cause of this type of allergy, since the body reacts to the saliva they inoculate when biting, producing swelling and itching in the area.
