Indications
In all species, the Potassium Chloride 149mg/ml (2M) MiniPlasco Branun Veterinarian Use is indicated in the following cases:
- Parenteral treatment of hypokalemia states of any etiology and potassium deficiency.
- Potassium corrector supplement in solutions for intravenous perfusion.
Dose / Application / Administration
Route of administration:
Potassium concentrates should never be administered directly into a vein, but should be diluted. This supplements should be added to a fluidtherapy solution for replacement or maintenance intravenous perfusion. It is recommended to not exceed a maximum rate of administration of 0,5mEq/kg/h (equivalent to 10ml/kg/hour) in order to introduce them in the cell and never reach dangerous levels in the blood; usually the right speed is from 0,1 to 0,2mEq/kg/h.
Dosage:
The doses should be frequently adjusted for the patient, and continuous monitoring of plasma concentrations should be performed. When the severity of hypokalemia is known, an administration regime is recommended:

- Mild hypokalemia: Serum levels 3,0 – 3.5 K+ mEq/l | Quantity of KCl per kg/weight administered for 24 hours: 2 – 3mEq.
- Moderate hypokalemia: Serum levels 2,5 – 3.0 K+ mEq/l | Quantity of KCl per kg/weight administered for 24 hours: 3 – 5mEq.
- Severe hypokalemia: Serum levels ≤ 2,5 K+ mEq/l | Quantity of KCl per kg/weight administered for 24 hours: 5 – 10mEq.
If the serum potassium concentration is not known, 20 – 40mEq/l potassium chloride should be added to the solution for intravenous perfusion.
During pregnancy and lactation periods, use only in accordance with the benefit-risk assessment made by the responsible veterinarian.
